About this work
The converted background photo was taken of a yellow canola field while passing by at 120 kilometres per hour on a busy national road. It was then changed through a digital method into an uncomplicated image which represents a simple moment captured as a passing experience. This momentary happy yellow memory became the background for the depiction of a dilapidated orphanage. The derelict wooden building ‘houses’ countless stories of child abuse. The philosophical question rising with this work is whether trauma of the past can be successfully transformed and if disjointed memories can become happy (yellow) and fresh (greens) into new thought processes which can result in joy and peace. The simplified black architectural design indicates a possible plan on how we as individuals are able to aspire new ways to approach our future rationale.
